Tehtävä:

Vastavalmistuneen tutkijatohtorin tehtävänä on osallistua verisuonittuneen luun in vitro –mallinnukseen tai verisuonittuneen rasvakudoksen in vitro –mallinnukseen.

Edellytykset:

Hakijalta edellytämme soveltuvaa tohtorin tutkintoa huippuyksikölle relevantilta alalta, korkeatasoista tieteellistä pätevyyttä ja näyttöjä kansainvälisestä tieteellisestä toiminnasta solubiologian, kantasolututkimuksen, kudosteknologian tai biomateriaalitutkimuksen parista. Verisuonittuneen luun in vitro -mallinnuksessa painotamme erityisesti osaamista luu- tai verisuonikudosteknologian alalta, verisuonittuneen rasvakudoksen mallinnuksessa painotamme erityisesti osaamista rasvakudos- tai verisuonikudosteknologian alalta.

Ansioita arvioitaessa otetaan lisäksi huomioon näytöt kansainvälisestä tieteellisestä yhteistyöstä, suuntautuminen monialaiseen yhteistyöhön sekä tutkimusteemoihin liittyvä kehittymispotentiaali.

Palkkaus:

Tehtävän palkkaus määräytyy yliopistojen opetus- ja tutkimushenkilöstön palkkausjärjestelmän mukaisesti. Tehtävän alustava vaativuustaso on 5–6. Lisäksi maksetaan henkilökohtaiseen suoriutumiseen perustuvaa palkanosaa, joka on enintään 46,3 % tehtäväkohtaisesta palkanosasta. Tyypillisesti tutkijatohtorin palkka on työsuhteen alussa n. 3300–3800 €.

The University of Tampere is a multidisciplinary international academic institution with more than 16,000 students and about 2,200 staff members, located in the dynamic city of Tampere, Finland. The University values creativity, societal responsibility and academic freedom as well as equal chances for learning, gaining knowledge, participating and influencing. Strategic research areas of the University are health and society.

Centre of Excellence in Body-on-Chip Research (CoEBoC) at the Faculty of Medicine and Life Sciences, the University of Tampere invites applications for two (2) fixed-term (two years) Postdoctoral Researcher positions. The planned starting date is 3 April, 2018. It is possible that the job continues after the two-year period.

Faculty of Medicine and Life Sciences conducts high standard research in the field of medicine and biotechnology and provides education, closely linked to the research of Faculty of Medicine and Life Sciences, at undergraduate and graduate levels. The strategic research fields of Faculty of Medicine and Life Sciences cover stem cell research; cardiovascular diseases, especially atherosclerosis; vaccine research; celiac disease research, cancer research, especially prostatic cancer and breast cancer; ageing, including mitochondrial diseases, proteomics and bioinformatics. In addition to infrastructure, the cross-disciplinary research environment at Faculty of Medicine and Life Sciences also offers support in commercializing issues.

The University of Tampere offers many benefits to its employees, e.g. occupational health services, flexible working hours, high-quality sport services and affordable lunch opportunities on campus. International HR services offer their help with e.g. official issues in settling in Finland and Tampere. The University of Tampere received the European Commission acknowledgement HR excellence in Research in March 2015.

Tampere region is one of the fastest growing city areas in Finland. Tampere is the largest inland city in the Nordic countries and a traditional centre of the Finnish industry. Today, the city is best known for its high-tech expertise and extensive knowhow in various fields. Tampere is also the most popular city to study in.

From the beginning of 2019, University of Tampere and Tampere University of Technology will merge together to form a foundation-owned University. The Foundation will also own Tampere University of Applied Sciences. The new university will be the second largest in Finland with health technology as one of its focus areas.

The Centres of Excellence (CoE) are the flagships of Finnish research, operating at the very cutting edge of science in their fields, seeking out new avenues for research, developing creative research environments and training new talented researchers. The Centre of Excellence in Body-on-Chip Research is based on strong, existing collaboration between the participating research groups and it combines know-how in biological and engineering sciences to develop a new “body-on-chip” platform.

The platform will consist of several cultured tissue blocks connected with cultured vasculature and nervous systems integrated with engineered environment with innovative materials, microfluidic sensing and imaging. To achieve this goal, the researchers will combine multidisciplinary expertise on human stem cells, biomaterials, sensors, microfluidics, biomodelling and bioimaging.

The CoE will produce comprehensive knowledge, for example, on understanding tissue interactions, constructing complex in vitro tissue co-cultures and controlling their functionalities. The resulting expertise and technologies will improve, for instance, the development of new personalized treatments and drugs. The CoEBoC is a joint centre established by six research groups at the University of Tampere (UTA) and the Tampere University of Technology (TUT): Minna Kellomäki (TUT, consortium leader), Katriina Aalto-Setälä (UTA), Jari Hyttinen (TUT), Pasi Kallio (TUT), Susanna Miettinen (UTA) and Susanna Narkilahti (UTA).
